Council holds conference dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Baku`s liberation from occupation

The Council on State Support to Non-Governmental Organizations under the Auspices of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan held a conference dedicated to the 100th anniversary of liberating Baku from occupation on September 15, 2018.

Executive Director of the Council Farasat Gurbanov stated that liberation of Baku from occupation are one of the most honored pages of Azerbaijan’s history in the XX century. F.Gurbanov noted that Azerbaijan Democratic Republic signed a friendship agreement with the government of the Ottoman Empire on June 4, 1918. It was noted in the document that “the ottoman Empire undertakes to provide military aid to the Republic of Azerbaijan to ensure the security of the country if needed”. The Ottoman government does not withhold its military aid to the newly established Azerbaijani Republic. Islamic Army of Caucasus began to act in the direction of liberation of our territories starting from June, 1918. Baku was liberated from occupiers on the day of Gurban Holiday on September 15, 1918.

Executive Director said that if Baku was not liberated in September, 1918, it would be under question whether Baku would be capital of Azerbaijan. The great threat to our state was gone after the government of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic moved to Baku. The salvation of Baku and restoration its national city image were a historic victory for the eternal existence of the Azerbaijani state. We are always indebted to the souls killed during the liberation of Baku. F.Gurbanov also noted that martial spirit of the Azerbaijani nation is still high and our nation is always ready to liberate our occupied territories if Mr. Supreme Commander-in-Chief orders.

Head of the Department of History of the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ph.D. Firdovsiyya Ahmadova delivered a speech on “Islamic Army of Caucasus: mission and importance” noted that the nation, which did not have its army, was not involved in military service for over 100 years, set up its army by fighting against dashnak-bolshevik troops. Establishment of the Islamic Army of Caucasus stopped the genocide against Turkish-Muslim people, as well. Baku was liberated from occupation after 36 hours long battle that started from September, 14: “It is not accidental that Azerbaijan without Baku looked like body without a head. It shows again how important Baku is for Azerbaijan”.
