Today, Mr. Azay Guliyev, Chairman of the Council on State Support to NGOs under the auspices of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan (the Council) has received Jean Luis Gouard, a writer and publicist from France. Monsieur Gouard stated that following the inclusion of national Azerbaijani game chovgan in UNESCO’s intangible cultural heritage in 2013, he wrote a book about Karabakh horses, in order to enlighten European general public of the game played on the horseback. The book entitled “Karabakh horses”, funded by Heydar Aliyev Foundation, has been presented in Cannes and author has been honoured with an award of “Ambassador of International Horse Show”. Gouard is planning to write his next book about Azerbaijani women and is currently collecting relevant historic materials.
Chairman of the Council mentioned that the Council attaches particular attention to also promoting national culture of Azerbaijan abroad, including France. Mr. Azay Guliyev emphasized that the First Lady of Azerbaijan, President of Heydar Aliyev Foundation and Head of Azerbaijani–French Interparliamentary Relations Group of National Parliament (Milli Mejlis) Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva, makes enormous contributions to enhancement and expansion of bilateral cultural relations with France. Today, it is a bare fact that large-scale projects pertaining to culture and arts of Azerbaijan conducted in Paris and other European capital cities are presented and made known globally just under the guidance of Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva.
Chairman also recalled European NGOs’ projects financially supported by the Council during past two years and touched on ongoing projects to this effect. By emphasizing the role of women in national public, political, and social life, he reminded that the report, developed by foreign NGOs, on protection of women’s rights and gender issues in Azerbaijan in 2014 was presented at French Senate. Chairman also mentioned that the Council can lend a supportive hand to writer related to preparation, publication, and translation of his new book.
